About Chardham
Char dham or four abodes of god is also known as chota char
dham and is an important pilgrimage circuit for Hindus. It consists of Gangotri,
Yamunotri, Badrinath & Kedarnath, located in the tranquil & picturesque Gharwal Hilamayas
in Uttarakhand, immersing you in deep spirituality. Char dhams receive holy water in the form
of four streams / rivers - Yamuna (Yamunotri), Bhagirathi (Gangotri), Alaknanda (Badrinath)
and Mandakini (Kedarnath). The primary deities of Char dhams are - Yamuna in Yamunotri ,
Ganga in Gangotri, Vishnu in Badrinath and Shiva in Kedarnath.

Yamunotri
Yamunotri, the birthplace of river Yamuna and Yamuna Temple, is part of the Char Dham Yatra.
Places to visit near Yamunotri:
- Near the temple are three hot springs including, Surya Kund, where rice and potatoes are dipped into hot spring to cook and taken as “prasad”.
- Nearby is “Divya Shila” a rock slab is worshipped before puja is offered to the black marble idol of Yamuna.

Gangotri
Gangotri, is the most sacred spot where Ganga touched earth for the first time.
The actual river starts at Gaumukh, 18 kms uphill at Gangotri Glacier. Gangotri is
part of the Char Dham Yatra.

Kedarnath
Kedarnath Temple stands out in a wide plateau surrounded by snow clad Himalayan peaks.
Dedicated to Lord Shiva with elaborate stone architecture, Kedarnath temple is estimated
to be more than 1000 years old. Outside the temple door standing guard is a large statue of Nandi.
Kedarnath is part of the Char Dham Yatra.

Badrinath
Badrinath temple is situated in the shadows of the towering Neelkanth peak.Badrinath is considered
to be amongst the most pious of the Char Dhams and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Devotees can take a
holy dip in Alaknanda and enter Badrinath Temple. The water of the Kund is believed to have medicinal
properties. Badrinath is part of the Char Dham Yatra.
